Pluspetrol, a privately held, Argentina-based oil and gas company, put into production its first pad of three horizontal wells, each with 3,400-meter laterals, at Bajo del Choique, the block it acquired from ExxonMobil at the end of 2024. This marks a major milestone in the company's history.
The development incorporated innovative technical solutions that enabled early production, according to company data. Pluspetrol said the advance also strengthens confidence in the asset’s development and provides key lessons to optimize the next stages of its plan.
This achievement adds to the record recently set at La Calera, where the latest completed well reached a total depth of 6,179 meters in around 15 days — a 34% reduction in drilling time compared with the original plan and a savings of nearly seven days versus the initial schedule.
The company said this accomplishment sets a new record for Pluspetrol and shows what can be achieved when two industry leaders combine their vision and experience.
“We are proud of what we have achieved together and ready to keep pushing boundaries and setting new records in Vaca Muerta,” the company said.
Growth in both blocks represents progress in the roadmap the firm laid out for the next two years, as Pluspetrol aims to reach 100,000 barrels per day by 2027.
At Bajo del Choique, the company expects to close 2025 producing around 20,000 barrels per day, with plans to scale up to 60,000 barrels by 2027 through a large-scale investment plan.
At La Calera, Pluspetrol is already carrying out an expansion that will double condensate output, following a modular development strategy designed for progressive growth.
