Schneider Electric, the French energy management and automation group, launched MCSeT with EvoPacT in Argentina, a new generation of air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear built on a native digital architecture for real-time asset monitoring.
The launch comes as economies electrify, renewable generation expands and industrial and infrastructure operators seek more resilient power systems.
Part of Schneider's SeT Series, MCSeT is designed for medium-voltage applications of up to 24 kilovolts (kV). Its digital architecture gives operators wider visibility into equipment condition, tracks performance in real time and supports a shift toward predictive maintenance.
The system combines air-insulation technology with the EvoPacT HVX vacuum circuit breaker and targets industrial sites, critical infrastructure and data centers.
Real-Time Monitoring Moves Maintenance From Schedules to Data
As operations grow more dependent on continuous, high-quality power supply, accurate data on asset condition becomes more valuable. Digitalizing medium-voltage equipment lets operators move from maintenance based mainly on scheduled interventions to data-driven operation.
MCSeT's real-time monitoring lets operators track asset condition, identify potential risks and make maintenance decisions earlier. According to the company, that visibility reduces unnecessary interventions, optimizes resources and improves the availability of electrical infrastructure.
"Digitalizing medium voltage allows asset management to evolve toward a more predictive model. Having real-time information on asset condition makes it possible to anticipate needs, prioritize interventions and make decisions that directly affect the continuity and efficiency of operations," said Sergio Ferrari, Schneider Electric's Power Systems director for Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Integration with EcoStruxure, Schneider's IoT-enabled open architecture and platform, connects the assets and applies analytics and artificial intelligence tools to support decision-making.
Vacuum Breaker Targets Uptime in Critical Operations
The company identified the pairing with EvoPacT HVX, a vacuum circuit breaker designed for high reliability and a long operating life, as one of MCSeT's main differentiators.
The combination is intended to improve service continuity and reduce the risks of operating critical assets. With more data on equipment condition and continuous monitoring, operators can shift to condition-based maintenance.
That matters most in sectors where a power outage directly threatens business continuity, including industry, critical infrastructure and data centers.
Grid Complexity Drives Medium-Voltage Upgrades
The energy transition is also changing what electrical installations must deliver. New generation sources, the electrification of industrial processes and the growth of energy-intensive operations require infrastructure that can handle greater complexity and variability.
That gives medium-voltage modernization a strategic role: operators need assets that not only distribute power safely and reliably but also generate operational data and scale with new energy demand.
MCSeT with EvoPacT addresses that requirement by combining native digital architecture, monitoring, reliability and air-insulation technology in a single system.
SF₆-Free Design Cuts Lifecycle Costs, Schneider Says
MCSeT uses air insulation, avoiding the high global-warming-potential gases used in conventional medium-voltage equipment.
The shift to equipment free of sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆) can also simplify asset management across the life cycle. In conventional systems, managing the gas may require pressure and density monitoring, leak detection, refilling, inventory control and dedicated maintenance procedures.
According to Schneider Electric, switching to SF₆-free technology can cut inspection and repair costs by up to 40% over the asset life cycle, as a result of simpler equipment architecture and the elimination of auxiliary processes tied to insulating-gas management.
"The evolution of medium voltage means much more than installing new equipment. It is about having infrastructure that offers greater visibility, reliability and efficiency, and that is also prepared to support electrification and the energy transition," Ferrari said.
