In an effort to consolidate the stability of the provincial electricity system, Naturgy San Juan has launched an investment program worth 30 billion pesos, focused on building four new transformer substations and expanding two existing ones.
The initiative, described as strategic by the company, responds directly to the sustained growth in energy demand in the region and aligns with the pillars of the energy trilemma: supply security, economic accessibility, and environmental sustainability.
The project, now in the civil works phase, represents one of the most significant expansions in San Juan’s electricity distribution network in recent years. With an initial installed capacity of 75 MVA and operating at voltage levels of 33/13.2 kV, these upgrades will directly benefit 14,661 users, ranging from residential households to key industrial and commercial sectors that underpin the local economy.
Coordination with the Electricity Regulatory Authority ensures that the work meets rigorous quality and efficiency standards.
“These interventions will not only increase service reliability for the people of San Juan, but also enhance the system’s resilience to demand peaks, supporting the province’s productive development,” said Eduardo Stocco, director of electricity networks at Naturgy San Juan.
In his statement, Stocco emphasized the pivotal role of this modernization in ensuring uninterrupted supply, essential for economic progress and social welfare.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the plan incorporates advanced technological upgrades. Naturgy is implementing monitoring, automation, and remote operation systems through SCADA platforms, alongside IT and OT improvements to enhance cybersecurity and operational efficiency. These innovations form part of an integrated vision positioning the electricity network as a flexible and future-ready pillar.
In parallel, the company has made notable progress in digitalizing customer services. The recently launched Oficina Virtual app has experienced exponential growth of 1,000%, rising from 9,000 to 92,000 active users in just a few months. This leap reflects Naturgy’s commitment to faster, more accessible service in line with the expectations of an increasingly connected society.
This rollout of infrastructure not only mitigates the risk of outages but also fosters a more inclusive and sustainable energy ecosystem. In the context of San Juan’s industrial expansion, driven by the mining and agro-industrial sectors, initiatives like this are essential for sustaining regional growth without compromising equitable access to electricity. Naturgy San Juan thus reaffirms its role as a strategic partner in the transition toward a more robust and equitable energy model.
