YPF, Argentina’s state-run energy company, acquired 100% of the regional refining and distribution company Refinor for $25.2 million, consolidating its control over a key fuel transportation network in northern Argentina. The oil company, which already owned 50% of Refinor, bought the remaining stake from Hidrocarburos del Norte S.A., part of Grupo Integra, an Argentine energy and infrastructure investment firm.
Refinor, based in Salta, operates the only refinery in northern Argentina. It processes about 4,000 cubic meters of crude oil per day and more than 20 million cubic meters of natural gas. The company produces diesel, gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas, and manages more than 70 service stations across Argentine provinces like Tucumán, Salta, Santiago del Estero, La Rioja, Jujuy, Catamarca and Chaco. YPF notified the National Securities Commission of the acquisition, which integrates Refinor’s operations into the YPF group.
This acquisition gives YPF control of a 1,100-kilometer pipeline linking the dispatch terminal in Montecristo, Córdoba, with Refinor’s hub in Banda del Río Salí, Tucumán, extending to the Campo Durán refinery in Salta. The infrastructure carries liquid fuels to intermediate plants and supplies Argentina’s northwest region, where energy demand has risen in recent years.
Horacio Marín, YPF’s president and CEO, called the deal strategic for improving supply logistics in the northwest.
“This acquisition ensures operational continuity and reliable fuel supply across the region,” the company said in a statement, adding that it plans to align Refinor’s standards with YPF’s energy value chain practices.
The transaction comes as YPF expands its presence in Argentina’s hydrocarbons sector, seeking to strengthen its distribution network amid global price volatility and rising domestic demand. Refinor will continue operating under YPF, with possible investments in transportation and storage upgrades, though no additional amounts or timelines were disclosed.
